West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Chowdhury today alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress is mobilising district magistrates and SPs to woo his party leaders in the districts to join the latter in order to wipe out the Opposition in the state.
Chowdhury alleged that the DMs and SPs were talking to Congress leaders in the districts personally and were offering them money to join the TMC.
"This is unprecedented. It has never happened in the history of politics in Bengal. This is a political syndrome. We have earlier seen that the administration was used by the governments but that the DMs and SPs have joined hands with the state government in wooing opposition leaders were never seen," he told reporters at the party office here.
"The DMs are personally talking to the leaders. They are intimidating them to join TMC and also offering money saying that they can keep the half of the amount and use it as per their wish. Besides, jobs are also offered for the family members of the leaders," he alleged.
Asked to specify which DMs were used for such purposes by the TMC, Chowdhury said, "I have concrete evidence against the DM of Murshidabad... And the DMs of Malda, North Dinajpur are into horse trading."
The Congress MP further alleged that while the panchayat leaders were offered around Rs 5 to 7 lakhs besides, job-promises for their kin, councillors and leaders at the zilla parishad were getting offers of Rs 20 lakh and Rs one crore respectively.
