Trinamool Congress is sending a delegation of three MPs to Pune on Monday to express its solidarity with the agitating students of FTII.
"TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee has already voiced her support to the agitating students of FTII and on her advise three party MPs will visit FTII in Pune on August 24," Derek O Brien, Rajya Sabha MP and TMC spokesperson told PTI here.
"We will talk to the FTII students and spend two hours with them to express our solidarity with them", he said.
Apart from O'Brien, two other TMC MPs who would be in the delegation are Abhisek Banerjee, nephew of Mamata Banerjee and President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress and actress Satabdi Roy.
Voicing her support to the protesting students, Banerjee had yesterday tweeted "The central government must resolve the issues fuelling the prevailing unrest at FTII. They must take the students and teachers into confidence."
"Political purpose should not stand in the way, institutions are above everything," she had said.
Students at the premier film institute have been boycotting their classes following the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan - best known for playing the character of Yudhisthir in TV serial 'Mahabharata' - as its chairman.
