Trinamool Youth Congress Vice President Biswajit Roy alias "Bullet", who along with other party workers went to WBSEDCL office to submit a deputation protesting excessive electricity bills, was caught on television cameras assaulting WBSEDCL officials in presence of police.
After repeated telecast of the incident by news channels here, TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee suspended Roy from the party for six years.
"Roy has been suspended from the party for six years," Chatterjee, who is the state's Education Minister, said in Kolkata.
The TMC veteran said that the party would request the assaulted WBSEDCL officials to file complaint against Roy so that the Police can take proper action.
He said that the government would also direct Police to take severe action against Roy for assaulting government officials.
No police complaint, however, was lodged in this regard.
