TN govt launches internet for every household

Tamil Nadu government today launched internet services to every household through the state-owned Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa through a video conference launched the scheme aimed at providing internet services to every household across the state.
Each household can get the services of broadband available in various packages, priced between Rs 299 and Rs 899 every month, inclusive of service tax, an official release said.
The government-run BSNL, private telecom player Bharti Airtel, Bengaluru-based ACT Net along with other local players offer internet services to both residential and commercial establishments in the state currently.
Besides, the Chief Minister also declared open the start-up warehouse of Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV set up at a cost of Rs 3.53 crore and cloud computing facility at Rs 10.41 crore, it said.
Jayalalithaa also laid the foundation stone for the state government's Disaster Recovery Centre at investments of Rs 53.28 crore and phase two of State Data Centre to be set up by the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu at the cost of Rs 40 crore, the release added.
