The Tamil Nadu government today sought time to file its reply in a case, being heard by Madras High Court, related to the misappropriation of gold collected for making idols at Kancheepuram's Sri Ekambareswarar temple.
The matter came up for hearing before a bench comprising Justices R Mahadevan and P D Audikesavulu.
Public Prosecutor Emilias sought time to respond.
The bench directed the government to produce all documents related to the case and posted the matter for hearing on August 7.
In December 2017, the idol wing police registered an FIR in the case against nine people, including the temple's chief sculptor Muthaiah, following orders by the Kancheepuram judicial magistrate after a devotee, S Annamalai filed a complaint.
On Tuesday, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Additional Commissioner M Kavitha was arrested on suspicion of her involvement in the misappropriation of funds and gold for making two idols at the ancient temple.
She was remanded in judicial custody by a court in Kumbakonam till August 14.
