An elderly couple here on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking consent for 'mercy killing' of their35-year-old daughter, who has been suffering from chronic jaw disease for over two decades.
In a memorandum to the Tenkasi District Collector Murugaiah, they stated that they were looking after their daughter for a long time, but now that they were very old they were not in a position to attend to her.
Later, speaking to reporters, Murugiah said the woman's father was a daily wage labourer and the money he earned was not enough to meet her medical expenses.
Hence, they sought permission for 'mercy killing'.
