Police said the PA, Moorthy allegedly threatened the man and addressed him by his caste name when he demanded the money back after his wife failed to get the job.
A case was registered against him under various IPC sections, including 420 (cheating), 506(2) (criminal intimidation) and Prevention of atrocities against SC/ST Act.
"Moorthy was arrested for cheating the complainant by giving a false promise. He allegedly took a bribe falsely promising his (Murugan's) spouse a job," Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin, Ashwin Kotnis told PTI.
Police said their investigation revealed that Moorthy had also bargained with some persons for getting them MLA seats in six constituencies in Tuticorin district.
