TNCC on boil as Vasan backs Gnanadesikan; one more quits post

A day after B S Gnanadesikan quit as TNCC President upset at his 'neglect' by AICC, his mentor and former union minister G K Vasan today came out in his support, amid indications that his camp was cut up with the high command over the continued "sidelining" of his followers.
In a related development, TNCC Treasurer 'Covai' Thangam, also a Vasan follower, resigned from his post today with party sources indicating more resignations would follow.
Speaking to reporters after holding a 'consultative' meeting with his supporters at his residence here, Vasan said Gnandesikan only reflected "the mood of the party workers" by quitting from his post.

The meeting came in the backdrop of growing displeasure in Vasan camp over "sidelining" of his supporters and high command's objection to issuance of party membership cards with images of his father G K Moopanar and Kamaraj, allegedly at the behest of rival camps.
Besides the neglect of Vasan camp, persisting reports about change of guard in the TNCC was said to have led to the resignation of Gnanadesikan.
"The Congress party cannot be strengthened without invoking the legacy of Kamaraj and Moopanar," Vasan said echoing Gnanadesikan's views.

Earlier, speaking to reporters separately Gnanadesikan said "The State president does not have respect and powers," citing several instances belittling his role in the affairs of the party to buttress his point.

Stating that ten lakh membership cards were printed, he said the high command had asked him to "not use them" (as the cards had images of Kamaraj and Moopanar embossed on them).
Thangam said halting distribution of membership cards with images of Kamaraj and Moopanar had "ulterior motives and would set a wrong precedent.
