To bring the peripheral areas
under the jurisdiction of a single umbrella, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today announced to create Assam State Capital Region Development Authority.
According to an official release, Sonowal held a meeting with Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior government officials.
The meeting decided that in order to extend the fruits of metropolitan development administration to the peripheral areas of Guwahati and to stimulate fast development of all areas adjoining the city, Assam State Capital Region Development Authority will come into force very soon.
However, it was decided to take into cognizance the opinions of the local people and consult them before taking final call on the project, the statement said.
"The meeting decided to prepare a draft law to give a shape to the proposed Assam State Capital Region Development Authority, delineates the areas to figure in the Development Authority and consult the people to take all the stakeholders on board," it added.
The meeting also mooted the idea that Assam State Capital Region Development Authority will be envisaged in sync with the unique character of a place to be brought under the project so that inherent characteristics of all the places remain intact.
