Actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani has shared his experience of moving to the US, saying the public perception that it is "super-easy" to migrate to the country is far from the truth.
The "Big Sick" actor said he struggled to get his green card and faced hardships in becoming a US citizen.
"I feel like people think immigrating to the US is super easy. The gates are wide open. Nothing could be further from the truth, Nanjiani wrote on Twitter.
"It took me 15 years to get my Green Card. Getting any kind of visa is difficult. Becoming a citizen is extremely difficult and rare," he added.
His comments come at a time when the current administration of president Donald Trump is being criticised for its crackdown on illegal immigrants.
Nanjiani and his wife Emily Gordon, who co-wrote "The Big Sick" with him, are currently working on the anthology series "Little America", which recently got an order from Apple. The show is based on real-life stories of immigrants who have migrated to the United States.
