China has launched a corruption probe against a top political adviser, the ruling Communist Party's discipline watchdog said today.
Yang Gang, who is currently deputy director of an official economic committee, is being probed for "serious disciplinary and legal violations", the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Yang is reportedly the 17th senior official to be investigated since China's once-in-a-decade leadership handover in November 2012, which saw Xi Jinping elected as the new leader of the Communist giant.
Xi has warned that corruption could topple the Communist Party, and launched an anti-corruption campaign he said would target both "tigers and flies" - high and low ranking officials in the government.
Yang had previously worked as the deputy head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine before taking up his latest position at Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
CPPCC is a political advisory body in China that consists of delegates from a range of political parties and organisations, as well as independent members.
