Top Maoist leaders produced before Karimnagar Magistrate

Four top Maoist leaders were produced before a court here today in connection with the murder of the then Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Duddilla Sripada Rao in 2009.
Jaspal Singh, Amit Bagchi, Akhilesh Jadav and Pramod Mishra, who are central committee members of outlawed and Communist Party of India (Maoist), were produced before the Karimnagar Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate.
Another top CPI (Maoist) leader Muppala Laxman Rao and others have also been named as accused in the case.
Based on a confessional statement given by one of the accused Malla Raji Reddy on January 1, 2008, the Karimnagar rural police registered a case of murder against Muppala Laxman Rao, alias Ganapathi, and 33 others.
Among them Kobad Ghandy, Varanasi Subrahmanyam, Jhanthu Mukherjee, Amit Bagchi, Pramod Mishra, Jaspal Singh and Akhilesh Jadav have also been held in various prisons.
Muppala Laxman Rao, Akkiraju Haragopal, Cherukuri Raj Kumar and others have not yet been arrested while another accused Mallojula Koteshwara Rao, alias Kishanji, was killed in an encounter at Jangal Mahal region in West Bengal on November 24, 2011.
Malla Raji Reddy, who got bail, has been absconding since then.
The police have not filed a chargesheet so far.
Meanwhile, Karimnagar's Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Azahar Hussain directed the police to produce the accused before him on April 13, 2015.
