While Maruti Suzuki India had lesser attendance of workers, Tata Motors along with two-wheeler makers Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India were impacted partially.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) and Honda Cars India, however, said their production remained unaffected.
"Today (September 2) was a working day at our facilities. Some union members supported the strike," a Maruti Suzuki India spokesperson said.
Attendance of workers at the plants was around 80 per cent.
Similarly, a Tata Motors spokesperson said: "Representatives from some of our unions have participated in the national trade union strike. Some sections of our plants are functioning."
"The other three plants in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka functioned normally," the official said.
The company's Manesar plant rolls out about 5,000-5,500 units a day and the understanding with the workers in the past has been that when such a strike happens the production loss will be made up on other days so that net monthly production is not impacted.
A union leader of Hero MotoCorp's Gurgaon said the company's plants at Gurgaon and Manesar remained closed today in view of the strike. However, the workers and the management have an understanding to make up for the production loss by working on Sunday.
On the other hand Hyundai Motor India Ltd's (HMIL) said its Chennai plant functioned normally.
"Today was a normal working day without any disturbance or production loss," an HMIL spokesperson said:
Honda Cars India spokesperson said: "Production was normal and there was no impact of the strike.
