A trainee sub-inspector was found hanging from the ceiling of his room at the police barracks here, the police said on Monday.
The matter came to light when colleagues of the trainee sub-inspector identified as Anil Singh Munda reached the barracks on Sunday evening and found the door of his room locked from inside.
They broke open the door and saw Munda hanging from the ceiling, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Gumla Sadar, Nagendra Prasad Singh said.
Munda was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
No suicide note was found in the room, he said.
Munda, who was posted in Gumla Sadar police station, hailed from Banta village under Silli block in Ranchi district.
An investigation is on, the SDPO said.
