The body of a 48-year-old tribal man who killed in an elephant attack near Kattikulam under the Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary was recovered today, officials said.
The forest officials identified the victim as Mathan Elias of Mattur of Kakkeri kattunaicken colony.
Mathan and his friend Sreekumar went inside the forest to collect honey and when they were returning to Sreekumar's house at Mannuthy tribal hamlet last night a wild elephant chased them, Wayanad Wildlife Warden P Dhanesh Kumar said.
Though Sreekumar managed to escape, Mathan was trampled to death by the elephant.
