Tribal woman accuses police of demolishing her hut
Press Trust of India Gadchiroli A tribal woman today alleged that police have demolished her hut in Gokul Nagar area of the city rendering her family homeless.
Vaishali Atram as well as leaders of various social and political organisations today held a press conference here in protest against the police action.
Giving details of the alleged police atrocity, Vaishali said that she has been living in a small hut in Gokul Nagar ward of the city for more than eight years, along with her husband and two kids.
"...I have been paying property tax to the municipal council for this hut and legally obtained electric supply. However, the police had been forcing me to vacate my hut claiming that the land belonged to them. The harassment went on for more than an year," she said.
"On February 5, a police team entered my hut with a JCB machine and demolished my hut completely...," she said.
Demanding stringent action against erring police officials, she also met the Superintendent of Police.
Police authorities, however, could not be contacted for their response to the allegations.
