Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today cautioned the Centre that the country would face series of protests and movements if the The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government pull out MGNREGA.
"After the hike of rail fare and prices of petrol and diesel, the BJP led NDA government is contemplating to pull out MGNREGA, which gave employment guarantee to the people living in the villages. If it is done, the country would be rocked by protests and movements," Sarkar said while addressing a public gathering at Mohanpur, about 40 km from here ahead of the three-tier Panchayat elections scheduled for July 15.
Despite limited resources, the Left Front government was trying to make Tripura, the most developed and best governed state in the country by developing the standard of living of the people living in the villages, Sarkar added.
Criticising the NDA government for allegedly protecting the interests of the corporate houses, he said, " they are protecting the interests of the corporate people because they helped them before coming to power."
He said, the Left Front government was committed to protect the interests of the people from poorer sections and would continue to pursue the agenda.
