Tripura has demanded a CBI inquiry into the poor quality work by Hindusthan Steel Works Construction Ltd (HSCL) in the state, a minister said today.
"The demand for conducting a CBI inquiry was raised by the government during a review meeting by the Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, D V Sadananda Gowda in the state last week," Tripura PWD and Health Minister Badal Chowdhury told reporters.
"We have clearly told him (Gowda) that the work of HSCL is not up to the mark, is time consuming and proper action should be taken against it. The central minister assured us of taking appropriate actions against HSCL," Chowdhury added.
HSCL, a central government undertaking under the programme implementation ministry, had signed an agreement with the Tripura government to implement different projects including Pradhan Mantri Gram Seval Yojana (PMGSY), drainage and hospitals.
The PWD minister said he also brought to the notice of the central minister that many projects like expansion of Agartala airport road, construction of a bridge on Feni river in South Tripura to connect Chittagong with Tripura are pending and urged him to take initiative for their speedy implementation.
Gowda assured to take proper steps for speedy implementation of the projects, he said.
The union minister had visited Tripura on September 14 and 15 and during his stay had visited Agartala railway station and asked the North-East Frontier Railways for speedy implementation of the 15 km-long Agartala project to connect north-east railways with Bangladesh.
The project, fully sponsored by the Centre, would be completed by 2019.
