Tripura minister files nomination

Tripura minister for Industries and Commerce Jitendra Chowdhury today submitted his nomination for East Tripura (ST) constituency, officials said.
He submitted the nomination to Returning Officer (RO) and district Magistrate of Dhalai Prashant Goel at Ambassa accompanied by his party colleagues and activists.
Before submitting the nomination, Chowdhury addressed a gathering at Ambassa and assured the people that he would be working for getting the pending demands of the entire North-East conceded if he wins.
Among others, CPI-M state party Secretary, Bijan Dhar and sitting MP from the constituency, Bajuban Reang also spoke in the gathering.
Congress candidate for West Tripura parliament constituency Professor Arunoday Saha submitted nomination to the Returning Officer at Sadar sub-division here yesterday. The first nomination paper for East Tripura parliament constituency was submitted yesterday by Trinamool Congress candidate Bhriguram Reang.

Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal said Alok Kumar, Inspector General of the Karnataka Police was appointed as police observer for Lok Sabha polls in Tripura. Kumar would be arriving in Tripura within March 22.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) approved one police observer this year to oversee law and order situation in the state.
Asked about progress in appointment of on-field poll personnel, the CEO said that exercise for appointment of micro-observers from among central government employees is currently in progress. Around fourteen thousand micro-observers are estimated to be required for the Lok Sabha polls in Tripura this year.

According to current estimates, around twenty-two thousand poll personnel including sector officers, presiding officers, micro-observers would be needed in the state, the CEO said.
Meanwhile, 35 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Force (CAPF) have arrived in the state for deployment in the poll bound areas.
The state sought 108 companies of central armed paramilitary force (CAPF) for conducting the polls this year. The Election Commission approved 35 companies. Around 22 thousand security personnel including fifteen thousand state police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans would be deployed to ensure law and order in the state during polls, the source said.
