A municipal commissioner in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana was today manhandled allegedly by a group of activists belonging to the ruling TRS after he gave orders to remove the party banners, police said.
Yellandu Municipal Commissioner M Ravi Babu said he got the party flexes which were put up unauthorisedly in the town removed yesterday, as per the directions of the Telangana government.
"There is no permission to put up flexes and banners. Yet, they put up these banners. We have clear instructions from the government to remove flexes and accordingly, the banners were removed last evening...however, some local TRS leaders assaulted me at my house," the official told reporters.
In a complaint lodged with the police, the municipal commissioner alleged that a group of local TRS leaders along with some activists came to his house this morning and picked up an argument with him over the removal of party banners.
"A heated argument ensued between the TRS activists and the municipal commissioner over the issue and the activists later manhandled him," Deputy Superintendent of Police (Yellandu) G Prakash Rao said.
"We have registered a case against five TRS activists who manhandled the municipal commissioner," he told PTI.
A case was registered under IPC section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), section 448 (house trespass) and other relevant sections, Rao said.
Meanwhile, the TRS activists accused the municipal commissioner of "abusing" Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, the DSP said.
"We are looking into their allegations...but no permission was taken for putting up the flexes," the police official said.
Asked if anybody has been arrested in the case, the senior police official said the matter was under investigation.
