TRS leader Rama Roa accuses Congress of blocking irrigation

TRS leader and minister in the Telangana caretaker government K T Rama Rao Thursday stepped up his party's campaign for the coming assembly polls mounting a strong attack on the Congress, and slamming parties, including TDP, for joining hands with it.

Addressing a public meeting at Nagarkurnool near Mahabubnagar, Rao, son of caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, also alleged that Congress leaders filed cases in courts to derail irrigation projects unable to digest the development initiatives of the TRS government.

"Congress, which ruled our country and state for 50 years in 67 years of undivided Andhra Pradesh, is unable to digest (the development initiatives taken by TRS government). When Palamuru (Mahabubnagar) was turning green, the eyes of Congress leaders was turning red," Rama Rao said.

Hitting out at the proposed broad-based alliance among Congress, TDP, CPI and others, he alleged TDP has now become a minor partner to the Congress.

Noting that TDP was founded by late N T Rama Rao in 1982 on an anti-Congress plank, he alleged that present party chief N Chandrababu Naidu had "backstabbed" him by allying with the Congress.

He also attacked the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) launched by M Kondandaram, who was in the forefront of separate Telangana agitation, for proposing to join the Congress-led alliance.

Congress was responsible for the suicides of Telangana supporters during the statehood agitation (by not accepting the demand for long), he charged.

TRS has announced candidates for 105 out of the total 119 assembly segments on September six when the assembly was dissolved.
