Truecaller starts caller id services for feature phones

Truecaller today announced expansion of its services, including caller id for feature phones, video calling and payment service using mobile phone number for its subscribers in India.
The Sweden based caller identification app has partnered with Bharti Airtel for starting called id service for customers not using internet or are on feature phones.
"Truecaller has entered in to a first of its kind partnership with Airtel to launch 'Airtel Truecaller ID' to extend the caller ID feature of Truecaller to Airtel's non-data users using feature phones," Truecaller CEO and Co-founder Alan Mamedi today said.
Truecaller has been providing service to smartphone users with internet connections. It service help in identifying caller even if it is not stored or saved in the phone of user.
In case of smartphones, caller name is displayed on the screen but in case of feature phones the name of caller will be delivered to users via flash SMS before the call hits the users mobile.
The 'Airtel Truecaller ID' will start the service from April.
The service will be available in the Truecaller 8 version, in which the company has integrated video calling feature in partnership with Google Duo.
Truecaller has also announced partnership with ICICI Bank for providing payment services using Truecaller Pay.
Under the service, Truecaller users will be able to create their unique Virtual Payment Address (VPA) in the app, and can instantly send or receive money using any unified payments interface (UPI) supported bank. In addition, users can also do prepaid and postpaid recharges.
"This feature will be available to the ICICI & non ICICI users as well. The service powered by ICICI bank is absolutely secure and follows 2-factor authentication as per RBI guidelines. All the banking and transactional data of the customers is securely handled by ICICI bank conforming to NPCI and RBI guidelines," Truecaller, CSO and Co-founder, Nami Zarringhalam said.
Truecaller will only provide technology and will not park any money or handle sensitive data such as account details, credit or debit card information of its users, Nami said.
The new version of Truecaller app will provide flash messaging service that will enable user to send quick pre-defined messages to any Truecaller user in case of distress, location, or reached home.
