Emphasising the role of local festivals in attracting tourists, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today said it will boost the economy of the state.
"Ours is a land of festivals, let us make these festivals a catalyst to strengthen our brotherly bonds and spread peace and happiness," he said while inaugurating the first-ever Yamne River Festival at Mariyang in Upper Siang district.
The maiden festival also marked a new beginning for Mariyang with the chief minister inaugurating the newly established office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner which, he had promised during his maiden visit to the township in 2012.
Tuki appreciated the efforts put in by the local legislator and the organizing committee for conceptualizing the Yamne River Festival and organizing it for the first time.
He appealed the people to lend their cooperation and support to the government so that the elected representatives can fulfill their aspirations.
Tuki also sought support of the people for union minister of state for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering, who would be seeking re-election in the ensuing Parliamentary Elections.
Responding to a memorandum, Tuki assured an amount of one crore from Twelfth Finance Commission for establishment of a Children's Park and two crore for construction of a multi- purpose community hall at Mariyang.
He also assured to look into the demand for a police station in the town besides giving consent to establishment of a sub-treasury office at Mariyang and a micro-hydel project in the Adi Pasi area.
