Turmeric prices surged 3.97 per cent to Rs 7,796 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators widened positions amid pick-up in domestic demand and tight supplies from producing belts.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in September climbed by Rs 298, or 3.97 per cent, to Rs 7,796 per quintal with an open interest of 24,775 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in August moved up by Rs 104, or 1.44 per cent, to Rs 7,334 per quintal in 285 lots.
Market analysts said pick-up in demand at the spot market and restricted supplies from producing belts kept turmeric prices higher at futures trade.
