Turmeric prices were down 2.45 per cent to Rs 8,286 per quintal in futures trading today as traders booked profits, driven by a fall in demand in the spot market against ample stocks.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May plunged by Rs 208, or 2.45 per cent to Rs 8,286 per quintal with an open interest of 32,455 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in April traded lower by Rs 166, or 1.94 per cent to Rs 8,400 per quintal in 8,150 lots.
Market analysts said besides profit-booking by participants, fall in demand in the spot market against sufficient stocks position led to the fall in turmeric prices at futures trade.
