Prashant Tripathi, the journalist, was heading for railway station in an auto rickshaw to catch the last train for Navi Mumbai around 12.50 am when the vehicle overturned after a collision with another rickshaw coming from opposite direction near New Mill road, said a senior police official.
Tripathi, who sustained serious injuries, was declared dead at the nearby Bhabha Hospital.
Driver of the rickshaw in which he was travelling was arrested under IPC sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) as well as under the Motor Vehicles Act, the officer added.
Tripathi's former colleague and BJP leader Sanjay Prabhakar said, "Prashant was 'always-ready-to-help' kind of journalist who was extremely humble....We have lost a good friend in a tragic way.
