Two aides of Babbar Khalsa militant Jagtar Singh Hawara, who were arrested for reportedly planning terror acts here, have been acquitted by a special court which said there was no evidence to prove the allegations against them.
Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh absolved Kulwinder Singh Khanpuriya and Baljinder Singh, who were arrested by the special cell of Delhi Police here in 2013, of all charges.
The police had alleged that the two accused were planning to commit terror acts in Delhi and it had recovered one revolver, fake identity cards of Punjab police officials and some cartridges from their possession.
A charge sheet was filed against the duo under several charges of IPC including 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 307 (attempt to murder), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 212 (harbouring offender), 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) and several provisions of Arms Act.
There are over ten cases against Khanpuriya, who was also allegedly involved in cases relating to bomb blasts at Connaught Place in 1995 and two blast cases in Rajasthan in 1995 and 1996.
There are reportedly over 30 cases against Balwinder, who was arrested in 2013. He had later escaped from jail.
