Katihar's Additional District and Sessions Judge Subhash Chandra Prasad sentenced Munawar Alam and Md Mojahid to rigorous imprisonment for life and also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on each after pronouncing them guilty of the murder of one Munna Master.
The convicts will have to undergo another two-month jail in case of default of payment of fine, the judge ruled.
According to the prosecution, Munna, an elderly man, was lynched by the convicts outside his house in the Chaudhary locality on December 8, 2000 after he tried to rescue his son Md Shahabuddin who had protested harassment of his sister by the two.
