In a gruesome incident, an armed gang of about 20 persons today attacked two rowdies, both siblings, with country bombs, beheaded them with sickles and threw their severed heads near the Medical College Hospital here, police said.
The gang also attacked friends and relatives of the two brothers, Ambulance Kumar and Rajesh, who were sleeping in their house at Kalinjimedu near here early this morning, police said.
Six persons who were injured seriously have been admitted to the Raja Muthiah Medical College Hospital here.
The relatives of the victims had gathered in their house as their sister got married only recently, and post-wedding functions were being held.
The gang masqueraded themselves as police personnel and attacked six persons when they asked them the purpose of their visit. When Rajesh came out, they threw a country bomb and then hacked him to death, police said.
Rajesh's brother, who rushed out, was also hacked to death. They beheaded them and dropped the severed heads near the Medical college hospital, police said.
Police said both of them were involved in several criminal cases and were notorious rowdies. The gang members had come on two-wheelers and escaped under the cover of darkness. Many of the assailants were wearing face mask, police said.
