Two die as balcony, bus shelter collapse during rains

Two persons died in separate incidents of collapse of a balcony and a bus shelter during the rains in the city today.
One septuagenarian woman died when the balcony of the second floor of a building in Dhakuria in the southern part of the city collapsed this afternoon during the rains, police said.
Kamala Chattopadhyay (70) died and another 50-year-old woman, whose identity was yet to be confirmed, was badly injured when the balcony of an almost 40-year-old residential building collapsed in Dhakuria at around 3.50 PM, when it started raining heavily, the IPS told PTI.
Two fire tenders, teams of the Disaster Management Group, besides police, were engaged in the rescue operation as a few more persons were feared trapped inside, he said.

The injured woman is being treated at a private hospital.
In another incident, an unidentified person died when a portion of the shed of a bus stand on Tospia Road in the Tiljala area collapsed, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
The shed collapsed at around 5.40 PM during heavy showers and an unknown person standing underneath was badly injured, he said.
When taken to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead, the officer said.
