Two head constables of Delhi Police were arrested for allegedly demanding money for release of three persons detained "illegally" in Shakarpur area, the police said today.
A complaint was received in this regard by ACP (Public Grievance) from Om Prakash who alleged that his acquaintance Rahul was detained by two head constables of Shakarpur police station.
Prakash alleged that head constables - Ram Kishan and Ashwini Tyagi were demanding Rs 12,000 for releasing Rahul and he had already paid them Rs 8000, a senior police officer said.
Based on the complaint, a case of extortion, illegal detention and Prevention of Corruption Act was registered and the two head constables were arrested, said the officer.
The two head constables had detained three persons, Deepak, Bunty and Rahul for allegedly collecting fund (Chanda) for organising a Bhandara (mass feast) using fake receipts, said the officer.
The head constables allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 for their release when Prakash went to negotiate with them. Finally, they settled on Rs 20,000.
Prakash paid Rs 8000 and got two of the detained persons released while Rahul was held back by the accused policemen till the remaining Rs 12,000 were paid, the officer said.
Further investigation in the case has been taken up by the East District police, the officer added.
