"Acting on a tip-off, Shivkumar Chandravanshi (33) and Mahendra Sharma (28) were nabbed from Ujala Circle near Sarkhej crossroads with counterfeit notes which had a face value of Rs 1.94 lakh," said a senior crime branch official.
Upon interrogation, the duo revealed that one Gupta Kumar, suspected to be the kingpin of the racket, had exchanged the counterfeit currency in return for original Indian currency worth Rs 1 lakh.
"The duo, hailing from Gaya district of Bihar, were asked by Kumar to circulate the counterfeit notes in the market, for which they were to receive commission," police said.
Police said the accused were being questioned about others involved in the racket, as to whether there was any person from outside the state, and about the possible involvement of an organised gang.
