A minor girl and an middle aged tribal man were killed by unidentified people in separate incidents here, police today said.
A five-year-old girl, who was playing in front of her house in Burmamines locality was lured away by some people to a vacant house and slit her throat with a sharp weapon on last evening, police said.
After committing the crime, the miscreants dumped the body in a dustbin in the house.
Asked about the possibility that the girl was raped and killed, they said the preliminary investigation did not suggest the possibility of rape.
In an another incident, a tribal man identified as Srikant Hansda, a resident of Punsa tola under Naxal-affected Bodam police station, was shot dead by unidentified people near Dimna Lake late last night, they said.
Hansda, who has a small carpentry business and was also the Bodam committee President of the tribal organisation Majhi-Mahal Paragan, had a tea last evening at his friends place near the place of occurrence and left for home on his motorcycle.
Kumar said a police team today morning rushed to the spot on being informed and recovered the body.
Asked whether the incident was the handiwork of any Naxal outfit, Kumar said the preliminary investigation did not suggest the role of Naxal group behind the incident.
Police recovered two empty cartridges from the spot and his motorcycle but his mobile phone was missing, Kumar added.
