"Babu Sen (51) and Nitai Pal (32), both residents of Belghhoria area and another person, Abhijit Guha, a resident of Airport area were travelling in a car from Madhaymagram towards BT Road and when their car was approaching the Madhyamgram flyover, motorcycle borne miscreants opened fire on the car," said a senior police officer of Barasat police station.
"Both Babu and Nitai were killed by fatal bullet injuries and an injured Abhijit has been admitted to the R G Kar medical college and hospital," the officer said.
"It seems some old rivalry was behind the attack. Investigations have started and search is on to nab the culprits," the officer added.
State Food minister Jyotipriyo Mullick denied any political connection to the incident and said rivalry between promoters engaged in real estate business could have been the reason behind the shooting.
