"Two labourers suffocated to death after they fell into the manhole. They were in the manhole to clean it near the minister's quarters," a senior police official said.
The deceased Prasanna and Sethu along with two other labourers were engaged in cleaning the clogged manhole.
One of the deceased ventured into the manhole, slipped and got buried into the filth.
The other ventured into the manhole in his effort to rescue his friend, but he also died due to suffocation, police said.
The doctors, however, declared them brought dead, police said.
One more labourer involved in the work is said to be critical.
