Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal awarded the jail term to two Haryana residents after holding them guilty of the offences of robbery and attempt to cause grievous hurt or death of a person.
While convict Nitin Nagpal, who was suffering from renal failure, was jailed for 10 years, convict Ajay was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
The court said, "Both the convicts robbed helpless persons on the point of pistol and knife after entering their house and took away their jewellery."
The incident dates back to November 2004 when Nitin and Ajay went to victim Manish Gupta's Shalimar Bagh house in north Delhi on the pretext of giving them Diwali gift on behalf of somebody else.
After the family served them tea and water, one of the two men took out a revolver and threatened to kill Gupta if they failed to give them Rs 10 lakh cash, police said.
The family expressed inability to give cash and the accused demanded all the jewellery kept in the house, it said, adding that the robbers took ornaments including diamond and gold sets and bangles and asked the family's driver to drop them somewhere.
The two men claimed they were innocent and falsely implicated in the case.
The court rejected their claim saying there was nothing to show the complainant has any axe to grind against the accused or any reason to falsely depose against them.
