Two men and a juvenile have been apprehended from northwest Delhi's Azadpur Sabzi Mandi for allegedly carjacking and robbing a cab driver, police said on Tuesday.
The accused -- Aashiq (20), Salman Qureshi (19) and the juvenile -- are all residents of Adarsh Nagar, they said.
In the intervening night of January 6 and 7, Meraj Alam, a cab driver, was waiting for a booking near Akshardham temple when four persons in a car approached him and forcibly opened the door of his vehicle, police said.
According to police, Alam was overpowered and held captive. They drove off in the vehicle towards Mayur Vihar and attempted to withdraw cash from an ATM there. Later, they threw him out of his vehicle at Mayur Vihar and fled in the cab.
"Acting on a tip off, Aashiq and two of his associates, including a juvenile were apprehended from Azadpur Sabzi Mandi on January 12," a senior police official said.
The robbed car, a mobile phone and an ATM card of the victim were recovered while the vehicle used for commission of crime was also seized, he said.
The accused used to "lift" a car which could occupy many persons and roam around Delhi to commit robbery, the official said.
They committed five to seven robberies in one night, he added.
The accused targeted drivers of trucks, cabs and small commercial vehicles on the highways of Karnal Bypass, GT road, Noida link road and the airport route, police said.
