Two teenaged cousin sisters drowned in a canal here in Maharashtra while washing clothes in the water body, a police official said Thursday.
Sayli Balu Pote (13) and Gayatri Bhausaheb Pote (15), residents of Sinnar taluka, went to wash clothes by the side of a canal Wednesday, he said.
However, both of them lost control and slipped into the water body, the official said.
Some women nearby raised an alarm but by that time, the girls drowned, he said.
The bodies were later fished out and handed over to the family members after postmortem at the Dodi rural hospital, the official said.
A case of accidental death was registered in connection with the incident, he added.
