Acting on a tip, police caught Japed Basumatary alias B Jawer and Birsha Topno intercepting a vehicle at the Bhomoraguri Bridge check post and recovered three AK-56 rifles and 120 live ammunition along with three magazines from them.
The militants were caught while they were on their way from Dimapur in Nagaland to deliver arms at Bishwanath Chariali, police said.
Police have launched a search operation to apprehend a third person who was to receive the arms at Bishwanath Chariali from the militants belonging to Songbijit faction of the outfit.
