Two policemen were injured when suspected Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants fired at a bus in which they were traveling at Jadigitam in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya today.
The policemen were attacked when they were moving in a bus carrying ration for the security forces engaged in counter insurgency operations in the district in the early hours today, IG (Operations) G H P Raju said.
Two of the constables who were in the bus suffered bullet injuries and were rushed to the Williamnagar district civil hospital, he said.
District police chief Anand Mishra rushed to the site with additional commandos and a counter operation was launched.
Police officials said one Rakkam, self-styled area commander of the GNLA in Nongalbibra area, was suspected to have operated the attack.
The attack came within 24 hours of the security forces shooting dead a wanted GNLA cadre in South West Garo Hills district and busted their makeshift camp.
