Two South African women were today arrested for allegedly smuggling out 25 kg of banned party drug -- Pseudoephedrine -- worth Rs one crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 AM when CISF sleuths found actvities of two women -- Margaret Sibongile Khumbane and Marcia Thembeke Chowdhury -- after they arrived at the airport terminal for taking a flight to Johanesburg via Abu Dhabi.
"On profiling, staff noticed the activities of the passenger which looked to be suspicious. Both the passengers were selected for thorough check which led to the recovery of 25 kg of narcotics substance from their baggage concealed in false ceiling of their suitcase," a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer said.
He then called in anti-narcotics sleuths who reported the consignment to be 25kg of Pseudoephedrine.
"The estimated value of the drug is about Rs one crore in the open market," he said. The duo were later handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau, who apprehended them on charges of narcotics smuggling, the officer said.
In another incident at the IGIA, CISF officials yesterday apprehended a loader, identified as Vinod, after he was allegedly found stealing stuff from passengers baggage.
"He was found tampering a check-in-baggage at terminal-3 for a flight bound to Amritsar yesterday. On a thorough search, Rs 1,973 and a book were recovered from him," the officer said.
The loader, of a private firm engaged for ground operations at IGIA, was later handed over to Delhi Police which arrested him, he said.
