A 22-year-old girl haling from Assam who worked as a maid was allegedly held captive and tortured by her employers.
Her employers, the two sisters also haling from Assam have been arrested in this connection from their flat in east Delhi's Shakarpur.
The incident came to light when the girl managed to slip out of the house last night and reached a local temple where locals found her crying.
"When they enquired with her. She revealed that her employees meted out inhuman treatment to her. They used to beat her with belt and sticks and burn her with hot tongs and play loud music to drown her cries for help," said a senior police official quoting the victim's complaint.
Some people took her to Shakarpur police station from where she was taken to hospital for treatment as she had burn marks on her neck, nail scratches on her arms and cuts on some other body parts.
She was brought from Assam to work at the home by her employers four years ago. She was being paid Rs 1,000 per month and things initially seemed fine but soon deteriorated with she being denied food at times and her hair being chopped off.
Police have registered a case and the two women have been arrested. Efforts are on to nab a male member of the house identified as Rajeev who fled from the house just before the police raid.
