This is the third incident of drowning in last one week on Candolim-Calangute beach which has forced the private lifeguard agency manning the beaches to issue advisory against swimming in rough water.
"During the wee hours today, two students from Mudra Institute of Communication from Ahmedabad who were part of a group of 47 students holidaying in Goa drowned at Candolim beach," said Calangute police.
"The students had come to Goa along with faculty for a study tour. Six of them went to swim on Candolim beach at around 3 am. Around 3.30 am two students namely Anuja Susan and Gurram Chenchu Sai were pulled inside the water due to a strong wave," police said.
At around 9 am the body of second student who is 25-year-old was fished out of the sea water.
Meanwhile, owing to the recent incidents of drowning which took place due to victims venturing into the sea during night hours, the private lifeguard agency, Drishti Lifesaving Services has issued an immediate advisory to alert beach goers on the dangers of swimming in the night.
"In the past five days, three incidents have taken place leading to the drowning of four persons, where victims have ventured into the sea during night.
Drishti's 600-strong lifeguard force mans Goa's beaches between7 am and 6 pmevery day.
Owing to the present weather conditions, red flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti's surveillance indicating that these are strictly non-swim zones, said the release.
