The victims were identified as Mehboob Kumari (40) and Kari Narshima (30), both workers of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) appointed contractor.
"They were cleaning the sewer from outside at Thakur complex in Kandivali around 3 pm, when they suddenly fell inside. The duo was pulled out by a fire brigade team and were sent to hospital, where doctors declared them dead," a senior police official said.
The deceased resided at a slum in suburban Dahisar and were natives of Telangana.
A case under relevant section of IPC has been registered and further investigation is on.
