Two year old elephant caught in slush, dies

A two year old elephant calf caught in the marsh and slush in a reservoir and died today in Anthiyur forest area in the district, forest officials said.
The calf, part of a herd of elephants which came to drink water in the reservoir at Maniyatchipallam today morning, was accidentally caught in the slush, Rajamanickkam,Forest Ranger, said.
The other elephants tried to rescue it but failed in their attempt.
Forest officials who rushed to the spot, on information, could not remove the dead calf as the other elephants did not allow them till noon, he said.
