Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today expressed his gratitude to Google for releasing a doodle on Chipko movement on its 45th anniversary.

Led by Gaura Devi, women from Raeni village of the state had started the movement by clinging onto trees to prevent them from being cut, Rawat said.

Though the movement was started to prevent felling of trees, it went on to become an inspiration for environment conservation not only throughout India but also the world, he said.
