Issues related to sexual violence against children would be discussed by activists led by a UK expert during workshops to be organised here and two other cities from tomorrow.
Individuals across the country working to address sexual violence against children in their professional or community capacity would participate in the UK-supported knowledge and expertise sharing workshops, the British Deputy High Commission here said in a release today.
The workshops, being supported by the British High Commission in India, would be held in Bengaluru on Oct 26, in New Delhi the next day. It would be a four-day event here starting from October 30.
UK expert Donald Findlater would be the lead facilitator at the workshops being organised by city-based Tulir-Centre for the Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse, New Delhi-based Butterflies and Enfold Proactive Health Trust.
The workshops will be attended by experienced and emerging practitioners from across the country involved in addressing child sexual abuse, the release said.
According to Findlater, Child Safeguarding Consultant, Lucy Faithfull Foundation, UK, "Communities worldwide are starting to face up to the challenge of child sexual abuse, a global epidemic that harms one in ten children."
Indian Council of Child Welfare President and Tulir's trustee Andal Damodaran said considering the 'universality' of child protection issues, it was important to adapt approaches of addressing sexual violence against children from other countries to the Indian context.
British High Commissioner to India Sir Dominic Asquith said he was "pleased" that their support to Tulir offered the chance not only for the UK to share experience with interested individuals across India on the issue but also for the UK to learn from India's own experience.
