Acting on information provided by local villagers, the police and troops from 8 Bihar Regiment carried out an operation near Bordumsa along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border and was nabbed Padmajit Gohain alias Nathu aliance Romit Asom who managed to escape during an encounter on August 10.
"Two more ULFA militants managed to escape with Gohain and they are still at large," the police said.
Four powerful remote-controlled IEDs were seized from Gohain who during his interrogation revealed that he had been given direction by top ULFA leaders of the faction to plant bombs in bicycles in congested areas of Tinsukia district before Independence Day.
On Friday, five more ULFA cadre were arrested and two powerful IEDs were recovered from an abandoned cremation ground, 500 metres from the parade ground where the district administration was due to hold the I-Day parade.
