Undertrial at Thane Central Jail ends life

A 22-year-old undertrial lodged at the district Central Jail here, allegedly committed suicide today by hanging himself, police said.
The prisoner identified as Aashit Marnwar, hanged himself from an iron rod with the help of a t-shirt, inside the toilet of barrack no.7 at around 2.30 am, Thane Police PRO Sukhada Narkar said.
Marnwar was arrested on July 19 last year, by the Vasai police in connection with a rape case lodged against him, she said.
He was also booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in the case.
A case of accidental death has been registered with the Thane Nagar police station and further probe into the case was on, police added.
