The body of Satya Narayan Konar (40), an insurance agent accused of murdering his wife, was found hanging from a water pipe in a toilet of Ward no. 4 late last night by a guard.
The body remained hanging for 10 hours due to absence of a magistrate, the sources said adding such bodies would have to be lowered only in presence of a magistrate, according to rules.
Later, the body was lowered in presence of executive magistrate Saikat Gangopadhyay and an inquest was done. The body was also sent for postmortem.
He was absconding after Ujwala's death and in judicial custody since his surrender before the court in January.
As per rule, the National Human Rights Commission and the West Bengal Human Rights Commission were informed about the unnatural death of the undertrial.
